Anglo-Saxon form of the first name Mélodie, from the Greek melôdia chanson, its harmonious. Melody is also considered a derivative of the name Odile, of the Germanic "odal", meaning heritage, wealth. Melody is best known with Melody Nelson, a character invented by Serge Gainsbourg for his album Melody Nelson's Story sung with Jane Birkin in 1971. Her birthday: December 14th with Odile. Saint Odile, daughter of a Count of Alsace, was born blind and recovered her sight at her baptism. She founded the Hohenburg Monastery in her father's castle and welcomed the lepers and the blind, some of whom were healed thanks to her. The place where the monastery was built became a place of pilgrimage, Mont Sainte-Odile. She died around 720. Her derivatives: Melody, Melodine.
