This name comes from the old Breton "tut", the people, and "uual", brave. Belonging to the seven founding saints of Brittany, Tugdual was a Welsh monk who came to evangelize Brittany during the 6th century. He settled there and founded the Tréguier monastery there. Legend has it that he was a pope and a winged horse brought him back from Rome to Tréguier after two years of pontificate.
